30 min23 mi25155 TX-321, Cleveland, TX 77327

Dayton is at the far end of our own highway. TX-321 leaves the lot and runs straight there: about 23 miles, close to 30 minutes, without changing roads.

What is worth knowing about this area

  • One road connects us, and it is a short one

The entire official route description for TX-321 is “From Dayton to Cleveland”, 20.285 certified miles, all inside Liberty County. Our lot is on it. The two ends of that highway are your town and ours.

  • Dayton started out as West Liberty

Dayton is on US 90, three miles west of Liberty, in southwestern Liberty County. It was first called West Liberty and was considered part of the original town of Liberty, founded in 1831, with the Trinity River dividing the two. It was recorded as an incorporated municipality on May 3, 1911.

  • Inside the city, a home can only go in a park

The city development code says it flatly: “A manufactured home shall only be moved into a manufactured home park. A stand-alone manufactured home is not permitted on a lot or parcel.” Inside Dayton city limits a manufactured home on its own lot is not allowed, only inside a park. Homes built before June 15, 1976 are not allowed at all.

  • Outside the city limits, Liberty County applies

The county requires a building or development permit for all construction “regardless of its location in the County”, and there a home can go on its own land, with that permit. The county has offices in the city of Liberty, at 311 Travis Street, and in Cleveland.

Local rules change. What this page says comes from what the city and the county publish, with the source noted on each point, but always confirm with them before you buy or move a home.

If you are putting the home on your own land in Dayton

This is the area where confirming first matters most. If your land is inside Dayton city limits and it is not a manufactured home park, the city will not let you place the home. If it is outside the limits, you are dealing with Liberty County and it can be done. Confirm the status of your land first, because that is the difference between yes and no.
