What is worth knowing about this area

  • The name comes from the flowers

The town was called Cox’s Switch, after Charles Cox, who got the railway to run a spur out to it. In 1896 Cox asked the first postmaster, Milton Z. King, to rename it, and King chose Splendora for the “Splendor of its floral environment”.

  • It sits where US 59 meets Farm Road 2090

Splendora is at the junction of US 59 and Farm Road 2090, on the Southern Pacific line, six miles north of New Caney and twenty-two miles from Conroe, in eastern Montgomery County. It was incorporated in December 1966.

  • Outside the city limits, Montgomery County governs

The county requires a development permit for each structure and defines the start of construction as placing the structure, which puts a manufactured home squarely inside it. It also requires a permit for any work inside the 100-year floodplain. The permit office is in Conroe, at 501 North Thompson.

Local rules change. What this page says comes from what the city and the county publish, with the source noted on each point, but always confirm with them before you buy or move a home.

If you are putting the home on your own land in Splendora

Splendora is an incorporated city, so the first thing to establish is which side of the line your land is on. Inside, ask the city what it allows before you buy. Outside, you are dealing with Montgomery County. We are not publishing a list of Splendora city requirements here because the city does not publish them in a document we could point you to.
